Services / Text editing / Revision

Revision involves the comparison of each sentence of the translation with the original in order to find and correct any mistakes that might have been made during the translation. This comparison is performed by another translator (the second-pair-of-eyes principle). It is more difficult for the person who has prepared the first version of the translation to find any mistakes they may have made as a result of distractions or fatigue.

As opposed to reviewing, which considers only the translated text, revision involves both language versions. The reviser's task includes finding and eliminating mistakes resulting from changes in the content. Mistakes that are most often found and corrected by the reviser include incorrectly translated sentences, changes in numerical values or errors in the use of conjunctions and pronouns. Such faults may have consequences which are often irreparable, particularly in legal and medical translations (e.g. omission of a key provision in a contract, changing the recommended dose of a medication or erroneous translation of the diagnosis). Therefore, a reviser should be an experienced and responsible translator of a given language combination with a habit of paying attention to detail and the powers of observation which are necessary to find mistakes.

Revisions of certified and uncertified mLingua PREMIUM® translations are a key quality control stage, in accordance with the requirements of the European Standard for Translation Services PN-EN ISO 17100:2015-06.
